Date: Saturday Octobe 31, 2009   Dr. Townsend was raised in Wilson, North Carolina. He attended college in Raleigh at North Carolina State University, where he received his BA in psychology with honors. He then attended Dallas Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Theology degree, also with honors. He did further studies at Rosemead Graduate School of Psychology at Biola University, and received his MA and PhD in clinical psychology. Dr. Townsend is a clinical psychologist and marriage, family, and child therapist. He has an extensive background in both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs and runs a private practice in Costa Mesa, California. He is a specialist on such topics as biblical models of personality and character growth, and spiritual issues of psychopathology A prolific writer and international speaker, Dr. Townsend is author of the best-selling book Hiding from Love, and most recently, Who’s Pushing Your Buttons? He is co-author of the Gold Medallion Award–winning books Boundaries and Boundaries in Marriage, as well as Boundaries with Kids, Boundaries in Dating, 12 “Christian” Beliefs That Can Drive You Crazy, Safe People, The Mom Factor, Raising Great Kids, God Will Make a Way, Boundaries Face to Face, How People Grow and Making Small Groups Work. Dr. Townsend has been a guest on "Focus on the Family" with Dr. James Dobson, CBN’s “700 Club,” and Trinity Broadcasting Network, as well as on many other television and radio broadcasts. Together with Dr. Henry Cloud, he is co-founder of Cloud-Townsend Resources. The partnership between the two doctors goes back many years. Together, they founded the Minirth-Meier Clinic West—Dr. Townsend served as co-director there for nine years. For well over a decade now, Dr. Townsend has co-hosted Monday Night Solutions, a weekly event held in Irvine, California. He is also co-founder of Ultimate Leadership, a one-week, intensive leadership workshop conducted in Southern California throughout the year.
